The Opportunity

Are you an experienced maintenance planning leader with a passion for driving equipment reliability and developing high-performing teams? Thiess is seeking an experienced and motivated Maintenance Planning Superintendent to join our high-performing team at Peak Downs Mine.

As a key member of the Peak Downs leadership team, you'll be responsible for delivering safe, efficient and reliable maintenance planning and scheduling outcomes across our mobile fleet. Leading a team of planners and support personnel, you'll play a critical role in maximising equipment availability, supporting production targets and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Roster: 5/2, 4/3 | Location: Peak Downs Mine, Queensland | Employment Type: Permanent Full Time

As the Maintenance Planning Superintendent, you will:

  • Lead, coach and mentor a team of Maintenance Planners and support personnel to deliver safe and effective maintenance outcomes.
  • Develop and oversee short, medium and long-term maintenance plans and schedules to optimise fleet performance and availability.
  • Manage maintenance shutdowns, major repairs, component change-outs and maintenance backlogs while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental and statutory requirements.
  • Utilise maintenance management systems to forecast workloads, manage budgets and control maintenance costs.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Maintenance Supervisors, Reliability, Warehouse teams and external stakeholders to improve equipment performance and maintenance efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, reliability, productivity and cost performance.
  • Monitor condition monitoring data, defect reporting systems and inventory requirements to ensure maintenance strategies remain current and effective

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will be a motivated and influential leader with extensive maintenance planning experience within a mining environment and a strong commitment to safety, people development and operational excellence.

You will bring:

  • Trade Qualification, Engineering Degree or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintenance planning and scheduling within the mining industry.
  • Previous leadership experience managing maintenance planning or maintenance teams.
  • Strong knowledge of heavy mobile mining equipment maintenance.
  • Experience using maintenance management systems, preferably JDE.
  • Sound budgeting, forecasting and cost-control skills.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and leadership capability.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Relevant Queensland coal mining competencies highly regarded, including:
    • RIIRIS301E – Apply Risk Management Processes
    • RIIWHS301E – Conduct Safety and Health Investigations
    • RIICOM301E – Communicate Information
    • RIIRIS402E – Carry Out the Risk Management Process
