The Opportunity

Are you a motivated and detail-oriented finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment? Thiess is seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join our team based in our West Perth corporate office.

As a key member of the finance team, you'll be responsible for providing accurate and timely financial and accounting support and insights to our West Australian operations, while supporting month-end reporting, statutory obligations and effective project delivery. You'll join a positive and supportive team where you'll be encouraged to take on challenges, stay engaged and contribute to the ongoing success of our operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and support the timely completion of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting, including period-end close processes.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations and general ledger journal entries, identifying and addressing key balance sheet risk areas.
  • Prepare and analyse profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow reports, including detailed variance analysis against budgets and forecasts.
  • Assist with monthly project claims, internal charges and end-of-month cost analysis.
  • Support the preparation of statutory accounts and provide information required for internal and external audit processes.
  • Prepare tax calculations and supporting schedules, including BAS and assistance with FBT requirements.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and internal controls, ensuring compliance with monthly reporting timelines.
  • Provide financial accounting support to operational and project teams, responding to general accounting and ad hoc financial queries.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes, controls and reporting practices. 

About you

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience across financial accounting and accounts payable/receivable functions.
  • CPA or CA qualification. · Demonstrated experience across month-end accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, variance analysis and general ledger functions.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls, statutory reporting and tax requirements.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills, with excellent Excel capability.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and meeting reporting deadlines.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both finance and operational stakeholders.
