The Opportunity
Are you an experienced maintenance leader with strong field service expertise and a passion for developing high-performing teams? Thiess is seeking an experienced and motivated Field Maintenance Leading Hand to join our high-performing team.
As a key member of the maintenance team, you'll be responsible for leading safe and efficient field maintenance activities across our excavator and drill fleet, ensuring equipment reliability and supporting operational performance.
Roster: 7/7 Day Shift | Location: Collinsville | Employment Type: Permanent Full Time
As the Field Maintenance Leading Hand, you will:
- Provide day-to-day leadership, direction and technical support to the field maintenance crew.
- Coordinate and execute planned maintenance, breakdown repairs and defect rectification across the excavator and drill fleet.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and in accordance with OEM procedures, site standards and statutory requirements.
- Support troubleshooting, diagnostics and root cause analysis of equipment failures.
- Assist supervisors with work planning, labour allocation, job execution and maintenance scheduling.
- Ensure accurate completion of maintenance documentation, work orders and Work packs.
- Promote a positive team culture and foster strong communication between maintenance and operations teams.
About you
You are a safety-focused maintenance professional with proven leadership experience in heavy mobile equipment maintenance.
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- Trade qualification as a Heavy Diesel Fitter or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years post-trade experience in heavy mobile equipment maintenance.
- Extensive experience maintaining excavators and drills in a mining environment.
- Strong understanding of OEM maintenance procedures and best practices.
- Demonstrated experience leading and coordinating field service personnel.
- Strong fault-finding, diagnostic and major component replacement experience.
- Experience coordinating breakdowns and planned maintenance activities in the field.
- Ability to work autonomously and make sound decisions in a dynamic environment.
- Strong commitment to safety, risk management and compliance.
- Experience mentoring and developing tradespeople and apprentices.
- Knowledge of maintenance management systems, with JDE experience desirable.
- Current driver's licence (HR licence advantageous).
- Excellent communication, organisational and documentation skills.
